Refurbishment
The recent refurbishment of the club room, bar and kitchen, was assisted by grants from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNP), and support from Petworth Town Council, is part of a wider programme of improvements for the sports ground and its facilities.
PPS are continuing with phase one of the pavilion refurbishment project and will soon be upgrading the facilities in the ladies loos and adding baby change facilities in the disabled toilet. Fundraising is needed for phase two of the project which will include new shower and changing room facilities.
How can you help? In order to make Petworth Park Sports the best facility it can be, not only for members of the cricket club to enjoy, but for the wider community too, Petworth Park Sports need funding support and you can help by making the most of your clubhouse and using the new facilities so helping to generate income through food & beverage sales; and/or you can become a member of the PPS 100 Club which costs £60 for annual membership (or £5 per month) and you will be entered into a monthly cash prize draw. This fund has helped the club survive some tough years and is helping to update the pavilion. To join the 100 Club online go to petworthparksports.co.uk or email us to register your interest.
Britain in Bloom
As part of the ongoing improvements of Petworth Park Sports ground and facilities, a team of students from Seaford College visited the grounds last week as part of their Community Action Day and got stuck in alongside other community volunteers and the Petworth In Bloom team to prepare new planting beds outside the pavilion.
This week a team of volunteers including Petworth In Bloom and Petworth Town Councillors spent the morning at the sports ground planting up the beds with a variety of evergreen and perennial plants carefully chosen to be drought resistant for the sandy soil of the sports ground. We are now busy trying to keep it all well watered during this hot weather!
Thanks to the magnificent efforts of Petworth’s In Bloom volunteers and the support of the community, Petworth won gold in the two most recent RHS South & South East in Bloom competitions (in 2020 & 2021) and as a UK Finalist in the Small Town category it was put forward for the prestigious national award, RHS Britain in Bloom. Petworth Park Sports ground will be included on the list of places to be visited by the RHS regional and national In Bloom judges later this month.
The In Bloom project at the sports ground is part of an ongoing improvement project by Petworth Park Sports to provide a more welcoming and inclusive place for the whole community to enjoy sports and physical activities.
Keep following for news of more sports, activities, fitness classes and member’s social events happening soon!
